The first exhibition at the Raleigh Lace Museum features the works of
Kristin Conrad, the inspiration for the Lace Center and the Museum.
Besides several works, ranging from small delicate pieces to larger woven and
bobbin lace creations, patrons can admire her works in progress on the pillows
on display in the museum space. In addition to her works, the
museum showcases many lace masterworks from the early 1600s to
current, intricate fine lace pieces.
The Raleigh Lace Museum has loan program agreements and cooperations with the famous Kant Center in Bruges,
Belgium and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. The Smithsonian collection
numbers over 6,000. Since these valuable items are not shown currently at any of its museums in DC,
our museum offers a unique opportunity to admire world masterpieces. Such
special collections are shown for three to four months, and dates will be announced in our
quarterly newsletter. Make sure to join our mailing list so we can inform you of these
upcoming special exhibitions.
Consider becoming a member of the Museum as it entitles you to the following:
- Be invited to attend special events connected to the
new exhibitions before the general public
- Have free access to the museum during opening hours
- Receive the museum newsletter ahead of other patrons
- Attend lectures by lacemakers and curators about the history, lace styles, and relevance in modern times.
